You’ve heard the expression there’s no such thing as a free lunch, right? So, you’re probably asking yourself what’s the cost of using a plugin extension like Omega Core? Is it going to suck the life out of Reloaded and eat any remaining precious memory I have? The answer is, no. Quite the contrary, in fact.
The beauty of Omega Core is that it runs in its own separate processor thread and uses its own graphics and sound system completely independent of FPSC-R. True, it does use the same video card texture memory, but the objects and sounds that you use in Omega Core aren’t going to come out of your general memory budget for FPSC-R. So, essentially you are actually adding on GUI and sound elements and not taking away from FPSC-R. What you end up having is the ability to offload this to Omega Core and free up more memory for FPSC-R itself.
And, as far as performance is concerned. I have seen absolutely no impact on frame rate in my testing so far. This is the very nature of being a separate beast in a separate thread. It chugs along and doesn’t affect your game’s performance.
So, maybe there is such a thing as a free lunch after all. And God is awesome, btw.
